Title of the project: Oitijjo Theke Sikhon

Introduction of the project: Oitijjo Theke Sikhon project working on Indigenous Culture, Heritage and Education. Through these program activities, it will highlight culture, tradition, basic social customs, lifestyle, etc. of those northwest ethnic groups and represent at wider level.

As part of this work, the program will work to collect, preserve and practice issues related to ethnic life and culture. So that, the program is slightly different form the implementation strategy of the conventional project. Conduct research activities on indigenous culture and rights through the program. The program will mainly work with 5 groups (Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Joypurhat, Chapainowgonj)

and will prepare them for presentation at national and international level by improving their vulnerabilities through various online and offline seminars and workshops. So that they can present their heritage and culture wider level  through the program. but  this will not work with just 5 teams,through this program GBK’s internal project staff (PPEPP-13,ODHIKR-10, LIFE -15,LIFT-10 ) and all project youth group selective volunteers are know about indigenous peoples cultural, heritage history and rights. Also work with University students (Begum Rokeya University, Rajshahi University, Hazi Danesh science & Technology University) on Indigenous people’s cultural, heritage history and rights. Through this program, GBK will be encouraged Indigenous Peoples to celebrate various International Days and their festivals.

Project Participants/Beneficiaries:

Direct Participants of the program 150 Ethnic youth.

Indirect beneficiaries: there are 68 youth groups by GBK ToT received staff and 1360Ethnic youths.

Project period: (From January 2022 To December 2022)

 

Project Objective:

1.     To build capacity of the Community level Indigenous cultural groups on traditional culture and heritage.

2.     To strengthen network within the Adibashi students platform, people’s organization and sensitize, aware on Indigenous culture for preserve, promote and disseminate at the national and international level.

3.     Plain land Indigenous people’s different objects collection, preservation at Heritage center

4.     To observe different international days and celebrate indigenous people’s festival.

5.     To increase the knowledge of indigenous students about their Rights.

6.     To recognize and acknowledge Adibashi peoples contribution at different level for building society through Award giving.

Major Activities :( in brief) 

To build capacity of the Community level Indigenous cultural groups on traditional culture and heritage

To identify 5 Adibashi cultural groups under Dinajpur,Rajshahi, Naogoan,Gaibandha and Chapainawabganj and capacitated on culture and heritage. To development module on indigenous peoples cultural, heritage history and rights. To develop one Guideline on indigenous peoples cultural, heritage history and rights for giving awareness to the cultural groups, youth groups and university students.

To conduct a one day online workshop on Santal traditional songs. 15 participants (Cultural Group Electoral Volunteers) were in the meeting and GBK Culture and Heritage Team and Resource Person conducted the workshop.

 

Enrich Heritage center

Plain land Indigenous people’s different objects collection, preservation at heritage center. Also the list of items in the collection is provided in the attachment and updating regularly after collection. Each object should give a brief description of the name of the object, what it is made of and its use.

Observe different international days and celebrate indigenous people’s festival

 

To observe different international(9th August International Indigenous Day, Ulgulan  (Munda Rebellion), 30th June Santal Revolution Day, Tilka Majhi’s Birth Anniversary etc) and celebrate indigenous people’s festival(SOHORAI, BAHA, KARAM etc).

To increase the knowledge of indigenous students about their Rights

1. About the reasons for the requirement of quota in case of employment

2. About the need for a land commission for the plain land adibashi peoples

3. About the reasons for the need for constitutional recognition of indigenous peoples.

4. About the reasons for the ministry requirements for the plain land adibashi peoples

Through these online competitions indigenous students can develop their knowledge about Rights.

Publication and video documentation

1. BAHA yearly publication on plain land indigenous peoples culture heritage and livelihood

2. Reprint of the book “Uttorbonger Adibasi Muktijoddha”

3. “Ready Reference” research Book Publication

3.Publication of “Adivasi legends”.

There will also be video documentation based on the different traditions of the plain land Indegenous peoples.

Sidhu-Kanhu Awards

There are three peoples will awarded for special contributions Culture, people’s rights, education & others. Through this program we can highlights them to national and international level. The selection process and selection will be entirely in accordance with the decision of the GBK management.
